The Neuroscience Transitional Care Unit is the primary site for patients admitted to the Neurology, Neurovascular and Neurosurgical services. These patients require neurological assessment and care on a more frequent basis and on a more complex level than the acute care areas but do not require placement in an Intensive Care Unit.
Also, the Neuroscience Transitional Care Unit will provide a transition from the Neurological Intensive Care Unit (11 NICU) to the Neuro Acute Care Unit (8 Long).
The level of skill and number of staff members required for observing and caring for patients is a nursing decision based on several factors, acuity, off-service patients, need for transports etc. The unit has 13 beds with cardiac and invasive central venous pressure/intracranial pressure monitoring capability.
